The Wall Street Journal has a column here
arguing that the math standards of the common core are valuable, and
Republicans should get on board and start supporting the common core
curriculum. This is a subscription only article, and you might have to find a back door in to read it. I found one through a google search.
I would argue that having kids acquire
advanced literacy skills is at least as important as kids learning math. Read this blog entry by a practicing high
school English teacher to get some idea of the problems with the English

I don’t know this writer, but
everything he said mirrors my own experience teaching English.
