Reform in Massachusetts

Boston.com has an article here explaining that the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the NAACP are going to try to push reforms that will increase the academic achievement of minority and poor children.

And don't forget books!!!  Books, magazines, newspapers--anything to get kids reading.  In my 35 years of teaching in Massachusetts, it was clear to me that the high-achieving students were the avid readers.  They read better, wrote better, were better able to concentrate in class, and had wider frames of reference that made all learning easier.

And it wasn't that hard to get kids reading, but schools need to make it a priority.
