It is so depressing to me that in all this talk of reform,
no one is talking about developing a love of reading in children. That one simple reform would make most of the
other ones unnecessary. Avid readers
read better, write better, concentrate better, and have larger fames of
reference that make all learning easier.
Endless testing just drives kids away from books, never mind
using up all of the money that would be better invested in town and school
libraries.
What I’d like to see help me write my essay do is open up a used book section for children’s series books. This would get kids back into bookstores, and make the development of avid readers much more affordable for the average family.
