National Panel Recommendations on Improving Education

The Washington Post has an article here about the results of a national panel on education.   Most of the recommendations concern the need to equalize funding.  Most of the comments center on the need for parents to be more active.

Yes to most suggestions but here is the most important one:  schools need to make instilling a love of reading in children an absolute priority.  Fund school and classroom libraries.Give  students time in the school day to read books of their own choosing.  Make every school a reading center, filled with kid-friendly books.

If we can turn children into avid readers, the test scores will take care of themselves.
