A Cigarette Tax to Fund Pre-School Education

The Huffington Post has an article here describing a plan to fund nursery schools for low-income children by increasing the cigarette tax.  One comment, by ShellyGreen, was this:  “Pre-school ? It's government funded day-care. Just another way to make people more dependent on government.”

Actually, ShellyGreen, government-funded day-care makes people less dependent on government.  Mothers can work, knowing their children are in a safe place.  And the children are better prepared to do well later in school—which means they will be better prepared to support themselves.
