Hardball takes up the issue of sex education here, noting that in three states--Arkansas,
Texas, and North Dakota—GOP lawmakers are attempting to defund sex education
programs.
As a
high school English teacher for 37 years, I can hardly believe anyone wants to
defund sex education. It is incredibly
important. So many students lack even
the most basic knowledge of safe sex practices, never mind having any idea of
more complex issues of sexuality.
What
can the GOP be thinking? Do they want to
increase the number of abortions? Of
teenage mothers? Of teenagers with
STD’s? I’m completely baffled.
